Just when we started to live again without mask, smiles showing around, people out in the nature trying to live with the lesson learnt from COVID -19.
A news came stating a new COVID variant has emerged raising concern across the globe, but no worries we got you covered, here in this blog you would get all the answers to your question.
What Is the New COVID Variant?
The new COVID-19 variant, known as NB.1.8.1 or “Nimbus”, is a sub variant of Omicron. It is spreading rapidly across various countries, including the U.S., U.K., India, and parts of Europe and Asia. While it is more contagious than previous variants due to mutations that help it evade immunity, there is currently no evidence suggesting it causes more severe illness. Common symptoms are similar to earlier Omicron strains like fever, fatigue, cough, and congestion with many patients reporting a particularly painful “razor-blade-like” sore throat. Health experts advise staying updated on vaccinations and taking precautions like masking in crowded spaces and isolating when sick.
How new variant is different from the previous one?
The NB.1.8.1 or “Nimbus” variant differs from previous COVID-19 variants in its increased transmissibility and ability to evade immune protection from past infections or vaccinations more effectively. While it still belongs to the Omicron family and causes similar symptoms, it has unique mutations that enhance its ability to infect cells and spread quickly. Unlike earlier variants, many patients with Nimbus report an unusually intense sore throat—described as feeling like “razor blades” or “swallowing glass.” However, despite its rapid spread, it does not appear to cause more severe illness or increased hospitalization compared to previous Omicron sub variants.
Who Is Most at Risk?
Stay up to date on Vaccines
Get vaccinated and stay up-to-date with booster shots. Current vaccines offer good protection, even against the new COVID variant.
Wear a Mask in Crowded Areas
Wearing masks can reduce the risk of catching COVID, especially in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces.

Wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitizer, and do not touch your face.
Avoid Large Gatherings When Possible
Social distancing is still a useful tool in slowing down the spread of the new COVID variant.
